Supported migration of corporate intranet site from Solaris platform to LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP) platform, as well as upgrade of WordPress and Moveable Type environments.

Supported buildout and optimization of LAMP infrastructure for upgrade of JAMF software system, which serves as an enterprise management system for Apple Macintosh computers.

Deployed Linux virtual servers on VMware ESX from ISOs and from templates, and physical servers using kickstart.

Supported deployment of NetIQ monitoring system and retirement of Big Brother (gMon) server monitoring.

Deployed and configured Windows servers using VMware templates.

Support and troubleshooting for Sun servers (V210, V240, V880). Recovered complete system with a dead hard disk using Legato data recovery.

Developed gRemedy Queue Manager (http://qmgr.gene.com), a web dashboard for managing gRemedy queues according to various SLA timers that are tracked in the CORe Report.

Created Legato Client Backup Tracker, a dashboard for managing and tracking backup failures. This tool has dramatically increased success rate for backups and reduced time spent on resolving problems.

Maintained and enhanced HD-Alert / Triage tool and database, used by ExO to communicate more efficiently and accurately during outages, in order to resolve them more quickly. Our HD-Alert database has become a system of record for application and service availability statistics.

Co-wrote http://adweb.gene.com, a tool to automatically lookup Active Directory approvers and compose authorization emails for share access requests.

Monitored security events using Arcsight, assisted in establishing incident response procedures as part of a project to establish a Security Operations Center (March-May, 2012).

Provided support for ClearCase, ClearQuest, iRise, Mercury Quality Center, Reflection X (25% time May-August, 2007; projected 50% time May-August, 2012).

Crafted custom distlists that are kept up-to-date via PERL scripts and LDAP queries.

Worked with Sue Park to publish Email Queries page on gWiz (http://gwiz4.gene.com/groups/cit/bin/dl_tool.cgi), based on my PERL LDAP scripts.

Wrote Sendmail folder recovery and transfer tools, written in PERL with Expect module.

Evaluated load-testing tools, including Mercury Loadrunner, with which to establish load-testing service. Participated in load testing process for two client sites, pre-launch.

Investigated and documented performance optimization techniques for ATG Dynamo installation on Solaris.

5/96-4/00: Oracle CORP., Redwood City, CA Sr. UNIX System Administrator, Applications Engineer

 

Evaluated technology and measured throughput of gigabit Ethernet network adapters for Sun and HP platforms. Documented implementation practices and helped to formulate migration strategies from existing FDDI network to switched Ethernet network.

Optimized disk I/O layout for Oracle Financial Analyzer server, smprod1, by adjusting the parameters of Veritas Volume Manager and Filesystem to correspond to Oracle Express application architecture and rebuilding all production filesystems, found performance bottlenecks, tuned VxFS and implemented Veritas Quick I/O on databases.

Created scripts to support data migration from Sun Photon (A5000) disk arrays to EMC Symmetrix 3430 disk arrays. Configured EMC PowerPath software for load balancing and failover.

Performed performance tuning on email application running on E6500 servers, and participated in workload consolidation from several E6500s to a pair of HP V-class servers.

Promoted from Applications Engineer to Sr. UNIX System Administrator, September 1998.

Created web-based monitoring system that reports error conditions and facilitates event logging.

Wrote web-based UNIX account request and creation system.

Setup high-availability NFS server with two Ultra 2's and two ECCS RAID boxes (total 450 GB storage), using Veritas filesystem and First Watch HA software.
